Dutton Ranch's Heartbreak: Cattle Culling and Hidden Betrayals

The Dutton Ranch faces a devastating crisis after foot-and-mouth disease infects its cattle. Beth and Rip make the painful decision to cull the entire herd, marking a heavy blow to the family’s livelihood. Meanwhile, tensions rise as secrets and confrontations unfold among those closest to the ranch. The trouble began when Beth uncovered fraudulent paperwork linked to a bull purchased for the ranch. The forged veterinary records and pre-sale bloodwork had hidden the animal’s infection, spreading the disease through the herd. Enraged by the deception, she and Rip set fire to the cattle broker’s trailer, destroying any trace of the fraud.

With no other option, Beth and Rip agreed to destroy all the cattle to stop the outbreak. Rip instructed Azul and Zachariah on the grim task: herding the animals into a pit before shooting them. The loss weighed heavily on both of them as they carried out the culling, ending a way of life tied to the land. Away from the ranch, Oreana’s relationship with Carter took an unexpected turn when Beth walked in on them together in bed. Though shocked, Beth later listened to Oreana’s reasons for her feelings toward Carter and accepted her explanation. Their conversation ended in mutual understanding, easing some of the tension between them. Meanwhile, Oreana attempted to leave the 10-Petal but was blocked by Beulah’s attack dog henchman, trapping her in the dangerous world she had hoped to escape. Back at the ranch, Rip’s emotions finally broke as he stood under the vast Texas night sky, overwhelmed by the scale of the loss and the weight of the decisions made.

The Dutton Ranch now faces an uncertain future without its cattle, a core part of its legacy. Beth and Rip have dealt with the immediate threat, but the fallout from the disease and the betrayal will linger. For Oreana, escape remains out of reach, while Rip’s moment of vulnerability hints at deeper struggles ahead.
