Dimash Kudaibergen visits Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar

UN Migration Goodwill Ambassador and Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen visited Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, on 18 May 2023. The area hosts over a million displaced people, forming one of the world’s largest refugee settlements. His trip included meetings with Rohingya families and stops at key support centres. Kudaibergen and his delegation began by touring a shelter distribution centre run by UN Migration. There, they saw how housing assistance and essential supplies are provided to displaced families. Many of these families live in overcrowded shelters, with the camps facing constant risks from natural disasters.

Later, the group visited the Rohingya Cultural Heritage Center. The facility works to preserve traditional language, music, and craftsmanship within the community. Kudaibergen met with local musicians, who welcomed him with performances and gifted him a handcrafted mandolin. The singer took a keen interest in the traditional instruments made by artisans. He even joined the musicians for an impromptu performance, engaging directly with the cultural heritage on display.

The visit highlighted the challenges faced by Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar. Kudaibergen’s interactions with local artists and displaced families drew attention to ongoing efforts in cultural preservation and humanitarian aid. UN Migration continues to support housing and essential services in the region.
