Bulgaria's Dara Wins Eurovision 2024 with Bangaranga—First Victory Ever
Bulgaria has claimed its first-ever Eurovision Song Contest victory after Dara triumphed with her song Bangaranga. The win sparked wild celebrations among Bulgarian fans, particularly in Vienna, where supporters gathered to watch the final. Cafés, watch parties, and public squares buzzed with excitement long into the night.
The historic moment unfolded on Saturday night as Dara secured the top spot, winning over both the professional jury and the public vote. Bulgarian supporters in Vienna erupted in cheers, with many already making plans to attend next year’s contest in Sofia.
At Café Phil, a Bulgarian-themed Eurovision fan café in the city, the atmosphere reached fever pitch. The venue was packed with fans, many of whom had travelled from Bulgaria or nearby countries to be part of the event. To mark the occasion, the café served free rakia—a traditional Bulgarian spirit—turning it into a hub of celebration. Elsewhere, sisters Lubomira and Alexandra, who live in Austria, hosted a watch party for friends. Their gathering mirrored the joy felt across the city, where fans at the Eurovision Village in City Hall Square danced and waved flags. For Philip and Hristo, two Bulgarian natives who had made the trip to Vienna, the final was an emotional rollercoaster. Their relief and pride were shared by many as the results were announced.
Dara’s victory has cemented Bulgaria’s place in Eurovision history, bringing the contest to Sofia for the first time. The win has already inspired travel plans, with fans eager to experience the event on home soil next year. For now, celebrations continue as supporters savour the country’s long-awaited triumph.
