Brazil Launches Tela Brasil, a Free Streaming Hub for National Cinema

The Brazilian government has launched Tela Brasil Tela Brasil offers an initial collection of 555 productions, ranging from films and TV movies to short films and series. The catalog spans works created between 1910 and 2025. Access is open to anyone with a Gov.br account.

The Ministry of Culture also partnered with the Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) to include its catalog on the platform. President Lula stated that the service would help Brazilians better understand their own culture. The launch aligns with the New Industry Brazil program, which seeks to grow the audiovisual sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP to 1%. As part of this push, a seminar on June 17 will focus on creating specialised credit lines for the industry. The platform’s technology was developed jointly by the Ministry of Culture and UFAL, ensuring a homegrown solution for Brazilian audiences.

Tela Brasil is now available to all Gov.br users, offering decades of Brazilian productions at no cost. The government’s investment and policy support signal a broader effort to strengthen the country’s audiovisual industry. Further financial measures for the sector will be discussed in the upcoming June seminar.
