Beaver attacks dog in Kazakhstan village after flooding forces wildlife closer to homes
A beaver attacked a dog in Atameken village near Pavlodar on Friday evening. The incident happened around 6:00 PM in the yard of a private home. Authorities later confirmed the animal was unharmed and released it back into the wild two days later. The attack took place when the beaver bit the dog’s throat during a struggle. The homeowners quickly covered the injured animal with an old bathtub and called for emergency help. Local foresters arrived, captured the beaver, and confirmed it was healthy before returning it to the river on May 2.
Experts believe recent flooding may have driven the beaver into the village. This was not the same animal spotted earlier in Aksu—tests showed they were two different individuals. Pavlodar Region is home to over 200 beavers, with more appearing near villages like Chernoyarka, Naberezhnoye, and Mai District. Wild animals, including foxes and roe deer, are also being seen more often close to homes and towns. Authorities have advised residents not to approach wild animals. Instead, they should report any sightings to local officials immediately.
The beaver was safely released back into its natural habitat. Officials continue to monitor wildlife movements in the area, especially after the recent floods. Residents are reminded to stay cautious and avoid contact with wild animals.
