Aubameyang axed by Marseille after fire extinguisher prank and late-night party chaos
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been dropped from Marseille’s squad after a series of disciplinary incidents. The striker reportedly sprayed a staff member with a fire extinguisher and led a late-night party that broke team rules. The club now faces further turmoil as its season nears an end. Marseille’s troubles began when the team imposed overnight stays at their training ground. The move aimed to improve player discipline after a run of poor results, including a 3-0 loss to Nantes that earned them a 0/10 rating from French media. Club officials, led by manager Habib Beye, hoped stricter measures would turn around their slumping form.
Aubameyang, however, allegedly ignored the rules. He led a group of 10 players in throwing an unauthorised party at the training centre, breaking the team’s curfew. The incident escalated when he reportedly sprayed Bob Tahri, a member of the sporting administration, with a fire extinguisher, damaging his belongings.
The club responded swiftly. Aubameyang was sanctioned and left out of the squad for Saturday’s match against Le Havre. A labour lawyer in Paris later suggested that Marseille’s demands on players could be seen as 'harassment', adding another layer to the dispute.
With two games left, Marseille sits seventh in Ligue 1. Their chances of securing European football next season now hang in the balance. The striker’s actions have deepened Marseille’s crisis at a critical moment. His exclusion from the squad leaves the team short of options up front. Meanwhile, the club must address both disciplinary issues and their fading hopes of European qualification.
