YouTube sensation DanTDM introduces a fresh video game music series on our platform
In an exciting turn of events, one of the world's most successful YouTube gamers, DanTDM, has joined the presenting team of Classic FM, the UK's most popular classical music radio station. This announcement marks a significant step in the recognition of video game music (VGM) as a legitimate form of classical music.
Back in 2012, VGM entered the Classic FM Hall of Fame, the world's biggest annual survey of classical music tastes, marking a milestone in the acceptance of video game music in the classical music world. Since then, Classic FM has been a significant supporter of VGM, with the launch of the UK's first radio series dedicated to VGM, High Score, in 2017.
DanTDM, with over 29 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 20 billion views across his content, will host a new series called "Next Level with DanTDM". The series will air every Saturday from 9-10pm on Classic FM and Global Player, the official app of the radio station.
In the first episode, DanTDM will showcase the greatest gaming music from titles like The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy VII, The Elder Scrolls V, Street Fighter II, and Minecraft. The series will feature video game soundtracks from various popular games, promising a musical journey through the history of video games.
One composer that will be featured in the series is Yoko Shimomura, best known for her work on the Kingdom Hearts series. A family special episode of the show is expected to focus on music from Kingdom Hearts, highlighting the regular discussion of classical music in video games on the program.
Philip Noyce, Managing Editor of Classic FM, expressed his delight at welcoming DanTDM to the presenting line-up of the radio station. DanTDM himself expressed his excitement about hosting the series, as it celebrates the meeting of his interests in music production and video games.
Each program will be available on catch-up for seven days on Global Player. The series will run until Easter, providing listeners with a musical adventure through the world of video games every Saturday night.
