Yakutia ranks 22nd in Russia's household income and affordability study
A new ranking by the RIA Novosti Analytical Center has compared household incomes across Russian regions. The study measured how many times residents could afford a fixed basket of essential goods and services. Yakutia placed 22nd in the list, with incomes covering the basket 2.5 times over. The ranking was based on average incomes divided by the cost of a standard consumer basket. This basket contains over 80 items and costs just over 25,000 rubles on average nationwide.
In Yakutia, the same basket is priced at around 33,000 rubles. Despite higher living costs, the region’s reported average income stands at 86,000 rubles. However, official figures for Q2 2025 show the average income reaching 91,200 rubles. Some sources even suggest the average salary in Yakutia exceeds 125,000 rubles. With these earnings, residents can buy the fixed basket approximately 2.5 times. This ratio secured Yakutia the 22nd position in the ranking of Russian regions by household income.
The study highlights differences in purchasing power across Russia. Yakutia’s position reflects its balance between relatively high wages and elevated living costs. The region’s ability to afford essential goods remains above the national average.
