Why Crimson Desert players are trapped in the starting zone for weeks

Two weeks after its launch on 19 March 2026, many Crimson Desert players remain stuck in the starting area. The game's vast opening region, Hernand, offers dozens of hours of quests and activities—so much that some are warning others not to get lost in side content. Steam achievement data shows only 8% of players have even reached Chapter 7, raising concerns about burnout before the real adventure begins. The game's title, Crimson Desert, suggests a sprawling world beyond Hernand's classic fantasy landscapes. Yet, as of 2 April 2026, no official details confirm additional regions outside the core Pywel continent. Players, however, are already making excuses to stay: finishing quests, exploring hidden corners, or simply delaying departure.

A Reddit user, echolog, has urged others to push forward by Chapter 7. From that point, each new chapter unlocks a different zone, revealing more of the game's world. The story itself nudges players to move on, with the character Kliff explaining his role in the plot and warning that events could have been far worse without his actions. Still, the temptation to linger is strong. Some admit they've spent so long in Hernand that the thought of leaving feels overwhelming. Others argue that the game's true beauty lies in the uncharted lands beyond—if they ever reach them.

With only a small fraction of players progressing past Chapter 7, the risk of missing Crimson Desert's full experience grows. The game's design encourages exploration, but its vast starting area may be keeping players from discovering what comes next. For now, the desert—and whatever lies beyond Hernand—remains largely unseen by most.
