"Vinny Appice reveals that Ozzy Osbourne often expressed his affection for Ronnie Dio, refuting rumors of tension between the two rock icons"
In a recent interview with Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk, Vinny Appice, former drummer for Black Sabbath during the Dio era, has confirmed that the longstanding rumours of a feud between Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio were unfounded.
Appice, who also played drums with Dio's solo band, emphasised that the perceived animosity was a myth. He recounted that Ozzy would frequently tell him how much he liked Ronnie, and photographic evidence shows them hanging out amicably at events.
Ozzy Osbourne was replaced by Dio in Black Sabbath in 1979, but any assumption of grudges is unfounded. Sharon Osbourne and Dio’s widow Wendi Dio also noted that Ozzy and Ronnie were polite and kind to each other, though not necessarily close friends.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of 76 this week, and in 2022, he stated on SiriusXM that he acknowledged Ronnie James Dio's talent. Carmine Appice, Vinny's brother, was in Ozzy Osbourne's band during the Bark At The Moon touring cycle.
Interestingly, Ozzy could not bring himself to listen to the three Dio-fronted Sabbath albums. However, Appice's statements suggest that Ozzy held no grudge against Ronnie James Dio.
The rumours of enmity between the two legendary rock stars were created and spread online. But now, with Vinny Appice's direct and authoritative insider account, the myth of a feud between Ozzy and Dio has been dispelled.
