New action and horror films dominate box office and home video charts
New film releases dominated both cinemas and home entertainment charts this week. Six fresh titles claimed the top spots on the Circana VideoScan rankings. At the box office, action and horror films led the way with strong earnings.
Black Bear’s action thriller Shelter, starring Jason Statham, took the No. 1 position on the VideoScan chart. Blu-ray sales accounted for 37% of its first-week purchases. The film also performed well in theatres, earning $12.8 million domestically.
Sony Pictures’ horror sequel *28 Years Later: The Bone Temple* secured the No. 2 spot on VideoScan and topped the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD charts. A significant 73% of its first-week unit sales came from Blu-ray formats. The film had previously grossed $25.2 million in North American cinemas. Disney’s 20th Century Studios saw *Send Help* land at No. 3 on the VideoScan chart. The film had earlier earned $64.7 million at the domestic box office, making it the third-highest-grossing release of the week. Paramount’s *Primate* followed at No. 4, with $25.6 million in domestic ticket sales. Universal’s sci-fi comedy *Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die* rounded out the top five on VideoScan. The film had previously collected $8.4 million globally during its theatrical run.
The latest releases have clearly resonated with audiences, both in cinemas and on home video. Blu-ray formats played a major role in sales, particularly for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Shelter. The strong debuts suggest continued demand for action and horror genres.
