Two separate drownings in Nanaimo prompt police investigations

Two separate drowning incidents in Nanaimo, B.C., are under investigation by local police. Authorities have confirmed that neither case is considered suspicious.

The deaths occurred at different locations, with both victims recovered from the water in recent days. The first incident took place near the Brechin Boat Ramp, where a man was pulled from the water. Despite rescue efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A second drowning was reported at Departure Bay Beach. After a three-hour search, a woman’s body was found in the water. Police confirmed her death shortly after recovery.

The Nanaimo RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are working together to examine the circumstances of both cases. Officers have stated that foul play is not suspected in either incident.

Witnesses to either drowning have been urged to contact Nanaimo RCMP victim services for support if needed. The investigations into both drownings remain ongoing.
