Truck Grand Prix Championship Launches in 2026 with Renault Trucks as Pace Partner
New Truck Grand Prix Championship Kicks Off in 2026 with Major Industry Partner
The inaugural season of the Truck Grand Prix Championship (TGP) will launch in 2026, backed by a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer. Renault Trucks has been named the official pace truck partner for the nationally focused racing series, deploying two vehicles with distinct powertrains to handle both safety and logistical duties.
"In Renault Trucks, we've gained a powerful partner that perfectly aligns with the spirit of the new TGP Championship," said Janine Meyer, authorized officer of event organizer ETRA Promotion GmbH. "The pace truck is a cornerstone of every race, ensuring safety on the track—so we're especially pleased that such a prestigious brand is taking on this role."
According to the company, Renault Trucks will provide the core fleet for race operations. At the heart of the deployment is the Renault Trucks T High, which will serve as the lead safety vehicle at all events. In race conditions, the pace truck will oversee the starting grid, set the speed during neutralized phases, and support track safety in the event of incidents.
Combining Combustion and Electric Power in Motorsport
Alongside the conventionally powered model, the fleet will include a Renault Trucks E-Tech T, a fully electric truck. The manufacturer states that this vehicle will act as a backup pace truck while also handling transport tasks within the series. Its primary logistical role will be supporting ETRA, the organizing body responsible for executing the championship.
By fielding both vehicle types, Renault Trucks is showcasing different propulsion solutions in a real-world motorsport environment. While the T High represents traditional diesel technology, the E-Tech T embodies battery-electric applications in heavy-duty road transport—a demonstration, the company says, of how technological advancements perform under actual operating conditions.
Safety and Visibility in Truck Racing
Pace trucks play a pivotal role in truck racing safety, particularly during starts, race interruptions, or hazardous track conditions. Their primary function is to maintain controlled speeds and minimize risks for drivers and track personnel alike.
Truck Grand Prix Championship: Multiple Venues in Debut Season
Designed as a national series, the TGP Championship's first season will feature several rounds at established German circuits. The schedule includes races at Hockenheimring (May 16–17), Lausitzring (June 20–21), and the Nürburgring (July 11–12).
The Nürburgring event will coincide with the International ADAC Truck Grand Prix, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. This linkage allows the new series to debut alongside a long-standing staple of truck motorsport.
Expanded Event Format with Industry Focus
Beyond the races, the TGP Championship will offer an enhanced event experience, including industry presentations, career and training information for young professionals, and festival-style programming. The organizers aim to appeal to both trade audiences from transport and logistics and general spectators.
The platform emphasizes the intersection of motorsport and sector-specific themes, fostering dialogue among manufacturers, service providers, and emerging talent while providing a hands-on showcase for advancements in commercial vehicle technology.
