Kazakhstan's Mangystau Region Gears Up for a Record-Breaking Summer in 2026

Mangystau Region in Kazakhstan is preparing for a busy summer season in 2026. The area, known for its Caspian coastline and striking landscapes, has expanded its tourist facilities and safety measures to welcome more visitors than ever before.

Tourism here has grown steadily, with over 420,000 people visiting in 2025—a rise of 11% from the previous year. The region’s unique attractions, from sacred sites to dramatic natural formations, continue to draw both local and international travellers. Authorities in Aktau, the region’s main city, have taken steps to improve safety and accessibility. In April, inspectors reviewed tourist facilities across Mangystau and found no major violations, confirming readiness for the summer rush. A new fire and rescue unit has also been set up, along with a water rescue station on Soldatsky Beach, to protect visitors during peak season.

The region’s transport links are expanding too. Aktau International Airport now operates under an 'open skies' policy, connecting travellers to 21 destinations, including 12 international routes. A second airport in the Kenderli resort zone is under construction and expected to open in 2027. Once complete, it will cut travel time to the Caspian beaches to just a few hours for thousands of tourists.

Efforts to enhance the region’s appeal go beyond transport. Aktau has launched a major waterfront revitalisation project, including a four-kilometre beach zone with modern design features. Soldatsky city beach is also being reconstructed as part of a 4.5-kilometre coastal upgrade. Meanwhile, roads and viewing platforms near key landmarks like the Bozzhyra tract, Airaqty Valley, and Torysh tract are being improved to make them more accessible. These sites already feature in international travel and photography routes, attracting visitors from around the world.

Tourism revenue in 2025 reached 20.6 billion tenge, reflecting the region’s growing popularity. With ongoing developments, officials expect even higher numbers in the coming years. The new safety units, upgraded beaches, and improved transport links will support Mangystau’s tourism growth. The region’s unique landscapes and cultural sites remain key attractions, while ongoing projects aim to make visits smoother and more enjoyable. With preparations in place, authorities are ready to welcome another record-breaking season in 2026.
