Step Back in Time at Franconia's Historic Gaming Festival in 2026
The Franconian Open-Air Museum in Fladungen will host a two-day gaming event on May 16 and 17, 2026. Titled Historic Children’s Games, Board Games, Button Games, and the World’s Only Marble Exhibition Murmiland, the event invites visitors of all ages to explore traditional and interactive games from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission costs €8, with free entry for children under six and discounts for families. Guests can try their hand at historic games like Schussern and Stöckeln, alongside active challenges such as elastics, tin can alley, and a throwing booth. Sack races, stilts races, and a giant tug-of-war will also take place for those seeking physical fun.
Classic board games, including Nine Men’s Morris, dominoes, chess, and Ludo, will be set up on Saturday. Meanwhile, the interactive *Murmiland* exhibition offers marble runs, ball tracks, and marble pinball machines for hands-on entertainment. Each visitor receives a game passport with stickers to collect at different stations. Completing the passport grants entry into a raffle. On Sunday, the Rhön-Grabfeld Adult Education Center (vhs) will host a game meetup as part of the event.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, with tickets priced at €8 for adults. Children under six enter free, and family discounts are available. Organisers aim to blend nostalgia with active play, offering something for every age group.
