Star-Studded Brave Knight Redefines Heroism in New Animated Musical

A new animated musical film, Brave Knight, is in development with a star-studded cast and a fresh take on heroism. Written and directed by Zachary Derek, the story centres on empathy, strength through difference, and the power of being understood. The project is also being adapted into a stage musical alongside its film release. Brave Knight unfolds in the medieval kingdom of Northumbria, where three unlikely heroes must thwart a royal conspiracy. At its heart is Prince Tristan, who embarks on a perilous quest while his younger brother William—a neurodivergent, non-verbal prince—discovers a hidden plot back home. William teams up with Alora, a magical stable girl, and her fearless ally Constance to expose a coup threatening the throne.

The film’s cast includes Sydney Agudong, Skylar Astin, Meg Donnelly, Jordan Fisher, and Peyton List. Original songs and score are composed by Sharon Kenny and Kirsten Guenther, who also co-produce alongside Juan Pablo Reinoso for Lookbook Entertainment. Donnelly and List are additionally in talks to executive produce. Derek describes the story as one about empathy and finding strength in seeing the world differently. The project’s dual development as both a film and a stage musical suggests a broad creative vision for its future.

Brave Knight brings together animation, music, and a narrative focused on underrepresented perspectives. With its high-profile cast and dual-format release, the film aims to reach audiences in both cinemas and theatres. Production details and release dates are expected to follow as development progresses.
