St. John's buried under late-April snowstorm as winter refuses to end
A chorus of groans and resigned laughter could be heard on a downtown residential street in St. John's this morning as people began shovelling out their cars after a dump of late-April snow.
In a video posted to social media, local meteorologist Eddie Sheerr stood with a white landscape behind him in Torbay, N.L., pausing to capture the sound of hard-working snowblowers.
Making a wisecrack, he said surely the rumbling symphony was better than spring birds chirping in a blue sky.
Sheerr said he figured about 15 cm had fallen in Torbay, while volunteer weather monitor Lloyd Leaman reported more than 20 cm in nearby Paradise, N.L.
In St. John's, N.L., Des Morgan spent a few hours snowblowing his own driveways and those belonging to seven or eight neighbours on his east end cul-de-sac.
He says the persistent stormy weather since December has been 'a lot' and he is looking forward to summer.
