Russians Rethink Where to Live as 63% Plan a Move Within Three Years
A growing number of Russians are planning to change where they live within the next three years. New research shows 63% are considering a move or an upgrade to their current home. Many now have higher expectations for their future housing, with digital features and location playing a key role in their decisions. Price remains the most important factor when choosing a home, according to 54% of those surveyed. But other priorities are also shaping decisions. Transport links (51%) and well-developed infrastructure (45%) rank highly, especially for those looking beyond city centres.
A significant shift is underway in where people want to live. While 67% of potential movers dream of leaving urban areas, only 30% actually consider city centres as their preferred location. Instead, suburban neighbourhoods (40%) and country homes (32%) are the top choices. Many still want the convenience of city life but with more space and greenery.
Digital solutions have become a major consideration. Nearly 78% of those planning to relocate say smart technology is essential in their new home. Security systems (63%), smart home automation (49%), and energy-efficient features (48%) are the most sought-after upgrades. These demands reflect a broader trend: 75% of buyers now expect more from their homes than they did just three years ago.
The desire for change is strong, with 25% of Russians already having concrete relocation plans. Another 37% are actively exploring their options, suggesting a wave of movement could reshape housing preferences in the near future. The findings highlight a clear trend: Russians are increasingly prioritising modern, secure, and well-connected homes outside traditional urban hubs. With nearly two-thirds considering a move in the next three years, the demand for suburban and rural properties with advanced digital features is set to grow. This shift could influence future housing developments and infrastructure planning across the country.
