Sahara Group Foundation launches two new recycling hubs in Lagos

Sahara Group Foundation has opened two new recycling hubs in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State. These facilities, the 18th and 19th under the Sahara Go Recycling Initiative, aim to boost waste management and support local communities. The launch was celebrated at a ceremony attended by officials, volunteers, and residents. The commissioning event marked another step in the Foundation’s push for environmental sustainability. Both hubs were unveiled on the same day, expanding the programme’s reach within Lagos. Olaide Bello, Chief of Staff representing the Ojodu LCDA Executive Chairman, praised Sahara Group Foundation for its ongoing commitment to green initiatives.

The Sahara Go Recycling Initiative helps divert recyclable waste from landfills while turning it into economic opportunities. Since its start, the scheme has processed over 1000 tonnes of materials and improved livelihoods for more than 2000 people. Households earn income by participating in structured waste-to-wealth programmes.

Chidilim Menakaya, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, highlighted the project’s focus on practical, community-driven solutions. She noted that the expansion reflects the organisation’s dedication to long-term environmental and social impact. The Foundation plans to extend the initiative further across Lagos and other regions. The two new hubs will strengthen waste recovery efforts in Ojodu LCDA. Residents can now access more recycling points, reducing landfill pressure while generating income.
