Ryusuke Hamaguchi's All of a Sudden locks global deals before Cannes premiere
Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s latest film, All of a Sudden, has secured international distribution deals ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere. The French-language drama, starring Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto, is based on real-life letters exchanged between Makiko Miyano and Maho Isono. Rights to the film have already been sold in over 20 territories worldwide. The project follows Hamaguchi’s critically acclaimed Evil Does Not Exist, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. That film won both the Silver Lion and the Fipresci prize. His earlier work, Drive My Car, also earned four Oscar nominations in 2022.
*All of a Sudden* is produced by a collaboration of studios, including Cinefrance Studios, Office Shirous, Bitters End, Heimatfilm, and Tarantula. Cinefrance International has led the sales push, finalising agreements with distributors across multiple regions. In North America, Neon will handle distribution, while Plaion Pictures has secured rights for Germany and Austria. Diaphana Distribution will release the film in France.
The film’s international sales success comes before its official debut at Cannes. With a strong production team and a proven director, All of a Sudden is already generating significant industry interest. Distribution deals are now in place for key markets worldwide.
