Race Against Time to Save Dogs Stranded by Floodwaters in Remote Village

Rescuers from the municipal emergency service PASS Syktyvkar have helped transport food to the remote settlement of Kochpon-Chit for a pack of stranded dogs, according to volunteers from the Syktyvkar animal shelter Drug ("Friend").

Floodwaters left the animals cut off on the opposite bank of the river. Their desperate barking and howling drew the attention of onlookers, who alerted rescuers.

Two weeks ago, volunteers had crossed to the makeshift "island" in an attempt to evacuate the dogs but failed to locate them, leaving behind only food supplies. After repeated rescue missions—three trips in total—the women still could not capture the animals.

Activists have since set up a chat group where anyone willing to help, whether with advice or hands-on support, can join the effort.
