Portugal unveils €150M fuel relief plan for transport and agriculture
The Portuguese government approved a package of measures on Friday to mitigate rising fuel costs driven by the Middle East conflict, with an estimated monthly price tag of around €150 million.
In addition to maintaining the existing discount on fuel excise duty—already in place since March 9—the cabinet greenlit new support measures set to run for three months, from April 1 to June 30. These include subsidies for professional diesel used in freight transport, emergency aid for the agricultural, forestry, fishing, and aquaculture sectors, financial assistance for volunteer firefighter associations and taxi companies, and a one-time payment to private social welfare institutions.
