Pittsburgh Marathon triggers weekend-long road closures across 14 neighborhoods
Downtown Pittsburgh will see major road closures starting this Friday as the city prepares for the Pittsburgh Marathon. Thousands of runners are set to take part in the event on Sunday, with several streets shutting down to make way for the race and related activities. The first closures begin on Friday at noon along the Boulevard of the Allies. More disruptions follow on Saturday, when roads shut at 6:45 a.m. for the 5K and Pittsburgh Kids Marathon.
On Sunday, the marathon itself triggers widespread closures. Starting at 1:45 a.m., streets along the 26.2-mile route—spanning 14 neighbourhoods from the West End Bridge to Homewood—will be blocked. Most roads remain shut until around 2:30 p.m., though some, including the Boulevard of the Allies, won’t reopen until 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Drivers have been warned about parking restrictions. No-parking signs will be posted along closed routes, and any vehicles left in violation risk being towed. Organisers P3R have published full details on their website, including maps and alternative parking options.
The marathon will bring significant traffic changes across Pittsburgh over the weekend. While most roads reopen by mid-afternoon on Sunday, the Boulevard of the Allies stays closed until the evening. Residents and visitors are advised to check P3R’s guidance to avoid delays or penalties.
