Omsk shatters 80-year rainfall record in historic April downpour

Omsk has broken a long-standing weather record after heavy rainfall on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The city saw 19 millimetres of rain in a single day, surpassing the previous record set over 80 years ago. Meteorologists confirmed the milestone as part of an unusually wet April for the region.

The Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorological Service recorded the new single-day precipitation record at 19 millimetres. This narrowly exceeded the old mark of 18.4 millimetres, which had stood since April 26, 1943. The sudden downpour caught the attention of local weather experts.

Rainfall across Omsk Oblast varied widely in April 2026. While some areas received near-normal amounts, others saw far more. Most districts logged between 80% and 193% of their typical April precipitation.

The record-breaking rainfall highlights an exceptionally wet month for Omsk. Many parts of the region experienced significantly higher precipitation than usual. Officials will continue monitoring weather patterns as the season progresses.
