NY troopers issue nearly 1,000 tickets in April road worker safety blitz

State troopers carried out a road worker safety blitz across New York in April 2022. The operation resulted in nearly 1,000 tickets issued to motorists. Officers focused on enforcement at 12 different work zones during the campaign.

The crackdown saw 401 speeding tickets handed out—a rise of 33% compared to the previous year. Another 160 drivers were penalised for breaking New York’s Move Over Law, marking an 84% increase from 2021.

About a third of all stops took place along the New York State Thruway. The enforcement effort covered multiple locations, targeting unsafe driving near roadwork areas.

The blitz led to stricter penalties for speeding and Move Over Law violations. The number of tickets issued climbed significantly in both categories. Authorities continue to monitor work zones to improve safety for road crews and drivers.
