Brandenburg's Parliament opens doors to 1,790 students in 2025

Brandenburg’s State Parliament welcomed 1,790 students to public debates in 2025. The programme gives young people a chance to see how lawmakers work up close. Teachers often arrange these visits to help pupils understand politics in action. The visitor scheme is open to students from the ninth grade and above. Schools frequently send several classes at once, with three to five groups typically attending each plenary session. In total, the programme was booked 47 times over the year.

The Oberhavel district had the highest turnout, with 337 pupils taking part. Märkisch-Oderland followed with 256 attendees, while Ostprignitz-Ruppin saw 206 students visit. A recent debate on sexualised violence online also drew multiple school groups. Not all regions participated, however. No schools from Brandenburg an der Havel, Oder-Spree, or Uckermark attended in 2024 or 2025.

The programme continues to offer students direct experience of parliamentary debates. Schools from some districts remain underrepresented, while others send large numbers each year. The sessions provide a practical way for young people to engage with local government.
