Nizhny Novgorod launches major road and heating upgrades in June

Nizhny Novgorod is set to begin major road and heating network upgrades in early June. The works will affect key streets, including Malaya Pokrovskaya and Zvezdinka, with traffic closures and detours planned. Over 16 kilometres of roads will be renovated as part of a national project this year. The first phase starts on June 1, 2023, with a full traffic closure near building No. 10 on Malaya Pokrovskaya Street. The road will shut from 8:00 AM to allow a heating network overhaul near the Central Post Office. Drivers will be redirected via a temporary detour.

Later in the month, repairs on Zvezdinka Street will begin on June 29. The work includes resurfacing the asphalt, replacing manhole covers and curbs, and repainting road markings.

Other key routes, such as Ryabtseva Street, Kazan Highway, and the Myzinsky Overpass, are also scheduled for renovation. These upgrades form part of a wider plan to improve over 16 kilometres of roads across the city in 2023. The construction will bring temporary disruptions, including closures and detours on major streets. Once complete, the renovated roads and heating systems will serve as upgraded infrastructure for the city. Authorities have advised drivers to plan alternative routes during the works.
