Nizhny Novgorod braces for unseasonable May heatwave this weekend

Unseasonably warm weather is heading for the Nizhny Novgorod Region from May 18 to 20. Temperatures will climb well above the usual levels for this time of year. The spike is linked to a large ridge of warm air moving in from Central Asia.

The unusual heat comes from a tropospheric ridge stretching from Central Asia into European Russia. This system will push warm air masses northward along its edges, drawing in flows from the Black and Caspian Seas.

Daytime highs are forecast to peak between 29°C and 31°C. At night, temperatures will drop only slightly, staying around 14–16°C. While most areas will remain dry, a few isolated showers could develop briefly.

The warm spell will keep daily averages higher than normal for mid-May. Residents should expect summer-like conditions, with nights staying mild. The pattern is set to last through May 20 before any changes arrive.
