New John Candy Documentary Honors His Legacy on Prime Video
A new documentary celebrating the life and career of beloved comedian John Candy has arrived on Prime Video. Titled John Candy: I Like Me, the film was produced with the support of his children, Jennifer Candy-Sullivan and Chris Candy. They believe now is the perfect moment to share their father’s story with the world. Jennifer Candy-Sullivan and Chris Candy decided to move forward with the project after years of reflection. They felt a deeper understanding of their father’s legacy and saw an opportunity in the growing popularity of documentary storytelling. Their previous experiences in filmmaking also played a role in shaping the project.
To bring the vision to life, they teamed up with director Colin Hanks, son of Tom Hanks. Hanks had met Candy as a child and remembered him as warm, kind, and instantly trustworthy. During a recent panel discussion, he highlighted Candy’s ability to blend his own personality into every character, using Johnny LaRue from *SCTV* as a prime example. Chris Candy emphasised the importance of working with the right people to honour their father’s memory. The documentary explores not just Candy’s iconic roles but also the man behind them, offering fans a closer look at his life and influence.
The film is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video. It features personal insights from Candy’s family, rare footage, and tributes from those who knew him best. Viewers can expect a heartfelt celebration of a comedian whose work continues to resonate decades later.
