Navi Mumbai reclaims 110 hectares after demolishing 5,804 illegal structures
CIDCO has cracked down on illegal encroachments and debris dumping across Navi Mumbai over the past two years. The authority demolished 5,804 unauthorised structures, freeing up nearly 110 hectares of land. Legal action has also been taken against operators involved in soil theft and illegal waste disposal on CIDCO-owned plots. The demolition drives targeted lands reserved for major projects, including the Kharghar-Turbhe Link Road (KTLR), Metro corridors, and the NAINA development scheme. Before any action, notices were issued to encroachers, with public announcements published in newspapers. In the KTLR project alone, hutments blocking the proposed road alignment were cleared after discussions with affected slum residents.
To prevent further encroachments, CIDCO has begun wall compounding and fencing the reclaimed plots. The authority also filed cases against operators of dumpers, trucks, JCBs, and poclains caught stealing soil or dumping debris illegally. These measures aim to secure land earmarked for future infrastructure. The recovered areas will now be prepared for auction and development. Key upcoming projects include Aerocity, Educity, Medicity, a Logistic Park, and an Entertainment Arena. CIDCO has emphasised its commitment to protecting public land and ensuring structured growth in Navi Mumbai.
The anti-encroachment efforts have cleared significant land for planned developments. With fencing and legal action in place, CIDCO aims to prevent further illegal occupations. The reclaimed plots will support major infrastructure and urban projects in the coming years.
