Navi Mumbai Metro tests emergency response in hijack and bomb drill
A mock drill simulating a station hijacking and bomb threat took place at Central Park Metro Station on Wednesday. The exercise involved multiple agencies, including Navi Mumbai Police, CIDCO, and Maha Metro, to test emergency response systems on Line 1. The scenario began with an unauthorised takeover of the station and a suspected bomb threat inside. Metro staff and security teams immediately started evacuating passengers, isolating the station, and managing crowds. They also assessed potential threats as part of the drill.
Emergency communication systems, access controls, and coordination with medical and disaster response units were put to the test. The Quick Response Team (QRT) of Navi Mumbai Police, along with local officers, CIDCO, and Maha Metro officials, took part in the exercise. Senior police officials, CIDCO, and Maha Metro authorities later praised the professional and timely response from all teams involved. They emphasised that such drills are crucial for handling security challenges and ensuring passenger confidence in metro safety. The main goal was to improve inter-agency coordination, response speed, and communication efficiency. Authorities confirmed that the exercise would help strengthen safety measures across the metro network.
The drill successfully evaluated emergency preparedness and security protocols. Officials stated that regular exercises like this enhance infrastructure security and reinforce passenger safety on Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1.
