Marratxi overhauls rural roads to ease travel for farmers and residents
Marratxi has completed a series of road repairs to improve rural and urban connections. The project targeted deteriorated unpaved routes, addressing long-standing concerns from residents and farmers. Heavy machinery was used to level surfaces and reinforce safety across key areas.
The works were led by the municipality’s Environment department as part of a wider rural maintenance plan. Crews focused on fixing potholes, smoothing uneven sections, and reducing dust caused by crumbling surfaces. These issues had previously made travel difficult for drivers, particularly during dry spells.
Residents and local farmers had repeatedly flagged the poor condition of the roads. Many rely on these routes for daily commutes, agricultural work, and property access. Councillor Manuel Vega stated that the repairs aimed to protect the rural landscape while ensuring safer links between homes, farms, and urban zones. Officials also highlighted the financial benefits of regular upkeep. Well-maintained roads cut down on costly emergency repairs and extend the lifespan of the infrastructure. The timing of the project was chosen to prepare for increased traffic during the summer months, when wear and tear typically worsens. Local farmers and property owners have already noticed improvements. Many reported smoother, safer journeys, with fewer risks of vehicle damage or accidents on the restored sections.
