Mainz Carnival 2027 Seeks Witty Slogans for Schwellköpfe Centennial
The Mainzer Carneval-Verein (MCV) is calling on the public to help shape the 2027 Carnival celebrations. With the Schwellköpfe turning 100 that year, the club wants fresh, witty slogan ideas that capture the spirit of Mainz. The best entries will even win tickets to top Carnival events. The Schwellköpfe, those famous papier-mâché caricatures, were first crafted in 1927 by stone sculptor Ludwig Lipp. Weighing between 25 to 27 kilograms each, there are now over 30 of these oversized heads, each representing a local archetype. To mark their centennial, the MCV has dedicated the 2027 campaign to their legacy.
Submissions for the new Carnival motto must be humorous, original, and distinctly *meenzerisch*—a nod to the *Schwellköpfe*'s long history. Each person can send in up to three ideas before the May 22, 2026 deadline. By entering, participants agree to let the MCV use the winning slogan freely. A special jury will review all entries and pick the top three. Winners will receive tickets to various Carnival festivities, adding extra incentive to take part.
The competition closes on May 22, 2026, giving entrants time to craft their best meenzerisch wit. The winning slogan will become the official motto for the 2027 Carnival, celebrating a century of the beloved Schwellköpfe. The MCV will announce the results after the jury’s final decision.
