Magis Eagles clinch first National Prisaa title in nail-biting 62-59 finale

The Magis Eagles have claimed their first National Prisaa title after a thrilling 62-59 victory over Western Visayas. The win marks a major milestone for the team, which only began representing Central Visayas last year. The championship game took place in Bacolod, where Gabriel Gonzales led the charge with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Kent Basa also played a crucial role, scoring 15 points and securing 10 rebounds, including two vital free throws and a game-winning block. Jacob Lacson was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after contributing 13 points and 8 rebounds.

The team’s success has drawn praise from school officials. Jon Ralp Christopher Jiao Inot, athletic director of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, expressed pride in the players’ hard work and dedication. Coach Rommel Rasmo believes the victory will lift the team’s confidence ahead of the upcoming Palarong Pambansa.

The Magis Eagles have already returned to rigorous training, preparing for the national competition. They will compete in Agusan del Sur from May 24-31, with the opening ceremony set for the Datu Lipus Makapandong D.O. Plaza Sports Complex. The team has previously won the Palarong Pambansa twice, in 2013 and 2023. The National Prisaa title adds to the Magis Eagles’ growing reputation in school sports. Their strong performance in Bacolod sets high expectations for the Palarong Pambansa later this month. The team now aims to build on this momentum in Agusan del Sur.
