Krasnoyarsk averts flood disaster as Bazaiha River stabilizes after emergency alert

Authorities in Krasnoyarsk declared an emergency threat as rising water levels in the Bazaiha River put nearby settlements at risk. Several gardeners’ associations, including Polyanka, Veteran, Takmak, and Mramorny Karier, faced potential flooding in late May. Officials warned residents to prepare for possible evacuations and follow safety measures.

The situation escalated when the Bazaiha River’s water levels climbed, prompting city services to go on high alert. Rescue teams and emergency response units were deployed to the most vulnerable areas. Civil defense specialists monitored the river around the clock to track changes.

The Road Department was assigned to handle repairs and organise evacuations if needed. Meanwhile, the Education Department kept a close watch on the Lastochka children’s camp, ensuring safety protocols were in place. Residents in the affected zones were urged to gather essential belongings and stay ready to leave at short notice. By May 21, the threat had passed, and water levels returned to normal. The Bazaiha no longer posed a risk to the dacha settlements, allowing authorities to stand down from emergency protocols.

The flooding scare ended without major incidents, as the river stabilised and evacuation plans were no longer required. City services and emergency teams remained on standby until the situation fully normalised, ensuring the safety of local residents and infrastructure.
