Komi's Arctic freeze ends as warm front brings rain and thunder

A shift in weather is finally reaching Komi after weeks of Arctic cold. The region, known for its harsh winters, will see temperatures rise as a warm front moves in. Residents can soon put away their heavy coats—but rain and thunder will take their place. Today, rain and sleet have swept across nearly all of Komi. The May Day winds brought a mix of wet weather, ending the prolonged freeze. By tomorrow, the Arctic chill will fade further as the warm front strengthens.

Snow may still linger in the far north on Monday, where wintry showers could mix with rain. Elsewhere, heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms are forecast from Monday onward. Only the southern parts of Komi will stay relatively dry tomorrow.

Despite the rain, the southwest can expect a bright moment this evening. A clear spell will offer a striking sunset before the wet weather returns. The change brings relief from the cold but also days of rain and possible storms. Southern areas will see the least disruption, while the rest of Komi prepares for thunder and heavy showers. The region’s winter coats will stay packed away—for now.
