Khabarovsk's demolished theater site reveals two bold new designs
The site of Khabarovsk’s former musical theater now stands empty after demolition work finished. Construction fencing has started to come down, giving residents their first clear view of the space since the fire. Two new design proposals for a replacement building have just been revealed. Crews recently completed clearing the last remains of the theater, which was destroyed in a blaze. The area, once hidden behind fencing, is now visible to the public. Local authorities have since shared two fresh design concepts for the new structure.
Residents have until May 24 to vote on their preferred option. The regional Ministry of Culture will then present the final version later in May. This decision will be reviewed during a meeting of the Urban Planning Council before any further steps are taken. The cleared site marks the end of demolition and the start of planning for a new theater. Public feedback will help shape the final design, which officials aim to finalise by late May. The next phase will depend on the Urban Planning Council’s approval of the chosen concept.
