Kazakhstan's Bibigul Tulegenova honored for wartime heroism and cultural legacy
Kazakhstani stage legend Bibigul Tulegenova was honoured on Victory Day by service members from the Almaty Regional Garrison. The celebration recognised her lifelong contributions to culture and her efforts during the Great Patriotic War. Military personnel, children of service members, and officials gathered to pay tribute.
Tulegenova’s wartime contributions began at just 12 years old. She worked at the Semipalatinsk meat-processing plant, where supplies were sent directly to the front. Beyond factory work, she performed in amateur concerts for troops and sang for wounded soldiers in hospitals. She also helped them write letters to their families.
During the Victory Day event, a military brass band played wartime songs in her honour. Children of service members presented her with a bouquet of roses and performed *Victory Day*. Alua Baikadamova, deputy head of the National Military-Patriotic Center, praised Tulegenova for her role in cultural development and patriotic education. Colonel Rajan Zhanysov, deputy commander of the Airborne Assault Forces, delivered a commemorative address on behalf of the defence minister. The tribute highlighted her enduring impact on both the arts and national memory.
The ceremony marked Tulegenova’s lasting influence on Kazakhstan’s cultural and patriotic heritage. Her wartime efforts—from factory labour to comforting soldiers—remain a key part of her legacy. The event brought together military personnel and young performers to honour her contributions.
