Kuwait tightens health checks for expats under Wafid programme

Kuwait has updated its medical testing rules for expatriates under the 'Wafid' programme. Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi introduced the new executive bylaw on Saturday. The changes aim to improve health checks before and after expats arrive in the country. The updated bylaw includes 54 articles covering medical testing procedures for expatriates. It sets strict criteria for approving and monitoring overseas health centres that conduct pre-travel checks. These centres must now meet higher standards for laboratory tests, x-rays, and vaccinations.

The programme also strengthens e-linkage between health authorities to streamline testing. Upon arrival in Kuwait, expats will undergo medical tests again at approved local centres. This double-checking process ensures compliance with the country’s health measures.

The new rules emphasise integrity and transparency in all medical transactions. Health facilities must follow strict professional and ethical guidelines. The goal is to raise preventive health efficiency and maintain accurate records for all expatriate workers. The revised bylaw reinforces Kuwait’s efforts to monitor expat health more closely. Pre-travel checks and post-arrival retests will now follow standardised procedures. The system also ensures better coordination between international and local health providers.
