Hünfeld's volunteer event clarifies new tax rules for nonprofit groups

Hünfeld recently held its fifth volunteer information evening at the Hünfeld Locomotive Shed. The event focused on tax rules for nonprofit groups, drawing attention to recent changes. Tax advisor Sandra Oechler led the session with a 90-minute lecture on accounting practices for associations. The evening began with a keynote on 'Taxes in Associations', delivered by Diplom-Kauffrau Sandra Oechler. She broke down the two main accounting areas for nonprofits: ideological activities and economic operations. Ideological work remains tax-exempt, while economic activities benefit from preferential rates.

Oechler stressed that nonprofits must follow their statutory purposes closely. She also explained that commercial operations face taxation only if annual revenue surpasses €50,000. The talk covered updated allowances, including a rise in the tax-free training instructor allowance to €3,300 per year from January 1, 2026. The volunteer flat-rate tax exemption has also increased to €960 annually. After the presentation, attendees networked over refreshments, sharing experiences and questions about nonprofit management.

The event provided clarity on tax rules for local volunteers and associations. Updated allowances and thresholds now offer more financial flexibility for nonprofit work. Organisers plan to continue the series in future years.
