Goslar: Walpurgis Night Transforms the Old Town into a Realm of Magic

Goslar's Walpurgis Night Festival Brings Magic to Life on April 30

On April 30, Goslar's historic old town will once again become a stage of fantasy and enchantment. "When witches, devils, and mysterious figures roam the alleys, the grand Walpurgis Night spectacle begins—a festival for families, music lovers, and anyone eager to be swept away by the unique atmosphere of this magical evening." That's how Goslar's city marketing team describes the event.

Starting at 3 p.m., the marketplace will buzz with activity. Visitors young and old can deck themselves out in witch hats, devil horns, and other Walpurgis-themed accessories—available at the Tourist Information office in the historic town hall, online at www.goslar-shop.de, or on April 30 directly at the construction trailer beside the town hall. For the occasion, the Tourist Information office will extend its hours, remaining open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. And for the perfect transformation, DM on the marketplace will offer face painting for children and shimmering temporary tattoos.

Forest Elf and Woodland Spirit Enchant the Crowds

Dressed in stunning costumes, roaming performers will mingle with visitors, happily posing for photos. From 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a forest elf and a woodland spirit will cast their spell with an air of mystery. Children, in particular, are in for an adventure: "Fabula Furiosa" invites them to a magical treasure hunt at 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The little witch has lost her wand again—time for a quest! Alongside her sister Petronilla, young guests will embark on an interactive journey filled with dance, games, and sorcery. Meanwhile, fairy-tale readings in the historic town hall at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. will transport listeners of all ages to fantastical worlds.

Live Music on the Marketplace

At 3 p.m., "Road Sign," the elementary school band from Goslar's district music school, will kick off the stage program. Next up, at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., the band "In Good Company" will perform a diverse set of well-known and lesser-known favorites—delivered with rich harmonies and accompanied by mandolin, guitar, flute, banjo, and percussion. In between, at 4:30 p.m., the Diamonds Dance Kids from VfL Oker will showcase their talent. Starting at 6:30 p.m., DJ Stevie G will keep the energy high with infectious beats, leading up to the 8:30 p.m. performance by cover band "Stürmer Deluxe." What doesn't rock, they'll make rock: This German pop-rock cover band will fill the marketplace with earworms, reimagined classics, and current hits, ensuring an unforgettable party atmosphere. Food and drink stalls will cater to every craving of the revelers.

As dusk falls, one of the evening's most atmospheric moments begins: The historic ramparts will glow under a mesmerizing light installation. Colors, shadows, and ancient stone walls merge into a breathtaking backdrop, capturing the magic of Walpurgis Night in vivid detail. The illumination invites visitors to explore the city's evening beauty and surrender to the enchantment of the moment. This year's display promises new elements to delight the senses.
