Fire on Shivshahi bus sparks urgent calls for safety reforms in Thane

A recent fire on a Shivshahi bus near Thane station has raised serious safety concerns among commuters. In response, local activist groups have demanded urgent action to prevent future incidents. No injuries were reported in the blaze, but calls for stricter checks are growing louder. The fire broke out on the SATIS bridge, with early reports pointing to a technical fault. The incident has prompted Konkan First Foundation and Konkan Rahivasi Sangh to push for immediate changes.

Santosh Nikam, President of Konkan Rahivasi Sangh, submitted a formal memorandum to Thane’s transport officials. The document demands a full fire and technical audit of all Shivshahi, Electric, and Asiad buses at Khopat Depot and Depot-2. The groups stress that passenger safety must come first, especially during the busy summer holiday period. They are calling for tougher preventative measures to protect vulnerable travellers, including women and elderly passengers.

The memorandum insists on a complete overhaul of bus safety standards. Officials now face pressure to inspect and upgrade the fleet before another incident occurs. The demand for action follows growing unease among daily commuters in the region.
