Sudan Archives Announces New Album "The BPM"
Sudan Archives is set to release her highly-anticipated album, "The BPM", on October 17, 2025. The album marks a new chapter in the musician's career, introducing her new persona, "Gadget Girl", and delving into themes of mental illness, self-love, technology, romance, and heartbreak.
Born as Brittney Denise Parks, Sudan Archives has been creating music that is radiant and born of her own intentions. Her upcoming album promises a shift from devotional undertones to openhearted lust and yearning for a good time.
The album's sound is rooted in the club cultures of Chicago and Detroit, incorporating styles such as proto-techno, Jersey Club, and experimental beats. These energetic rhythms are beautifully blended with Sudan Archives' virtuosic violin to create a futuristic, genre-defying experience.
"The BPM" portrays a chrome-plated future where Sudan Archives embraces technology as part of her artistic identity, symbolized by the "Gadget Girl" persona. The final track on the album promises ascension, suggesting a spiritual home.
Justus Steele and Selena Ruiz are responsible for music video styling and makeup, respectively, while Sam Lee handles photography. The first single on the album is called "Dead", featuring a looping refrain "hello, it's me" and a manic pulsing beat.
In her home, Sudan's creative mind is free from judgment and audience, allowing her to evolve without compromise. Her styling is confident and fluid, using more ostentatious looks to please crowds and compel closer listening to her music. Sudan has reorganized her wardrobe, keeping only statement pieces such as retro faux fur, dreamy blunted-magenta puff coats, and billowing maxi skirts.
When dressing casually at home, Sudan's simple headwrap and accessories become the focus, reflecting her regal and playful energy. Her new home is an open-concept loft with violins mounted on the main wall like tribal masks.
The album was recorded mostly in Detroit and sounds carefree and earnest. The opening track on the 2022 album is called "Home Maker". Sudan Archives is one of the rare souls who remains real in the spotlight and behind the curtain, disarmingly authentic. The album is boundless, without the density of too much ego to threaten its flow, and satisfies a craving for a personal yet universally appealing sound.
There's a sense that Sudan's life and career could have been constricted by a one-and-only-love-type romance, but she has emancipated herself from this potential limitation. The space demands a higher level of accountability and drive from its inhabitant, a challenge that Sudan Archives seems ready to embrace.
