Evangeline Lilly slams Marvel Studios over 'unfair' layoffs and AI fears

Evangeline Lilly, star of the Ant-Man films, has spoken out against Marvel Studios over recent layoffs. The actress called the job cuts 'deeply disappointing' and questioned whether the studio treated affected workers fairly. Her comments add to growing criticism from actors and unions within the entertainment industry. Lilly, best known for playing Hope Van Dyne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, publicly criticised the studio’s decision to let go of a large number of employees. She argued that those losing their jobs deserved better treatment and suggested the move might be part of a broader push to replace human roles with artificial intelligence.

Her remarks also highlighted concerns from entertainment unions about studios using automation to avoid hiring commitments outlined in union contracts. Lilly went further by urging California state authorities to examine whether Marvel had complied with labour laws during the layoffs. So far, neither Marvel Studios nor its parent company, Disney, has responded to Lilly’s statements or the wider protests from other MCU actors.

The actress’s criticism puts additional pressure on Marvel as questions grow over its workforce reductions. With unions and fellow actors raising similar concerns, the studio now faces calls for greater transparency. Whether authorities will investigate the layoffs remains unclear.
