Douglas sea wall project advances with 2026 construction plans revealed
The next phase of the Douglas sea wall project is moving forward, with key updates released by the Department of Infrastructure (DoI). Construction on the new sea wall at the Bottleneck is set to begin before the end of 2026. Recent details also include plans for improved protection of the nearby car park and the finalisation of artistic elements for the structure.
A Freedom of Information (FoI) request revealed the latest timeline for the project. The DoI confirmed that contractors will soon be invited to tender for phase two of the sea wall works. This follows the ongoing completion of artwork panel designs, which will be installed alongside under-head lighting in the wall's recess.
Work on the sea wall itself is expected to start in the final quarter of 2026. Alongside this, measures to better protect the Bottleneck car park will be introduced. However, no public meetings or recent discussions about these plans have been recorded so far this year.
The project now enters a critical stage, with tenders for construction due shortly and work scheduled to begin later in 2026. Once finished, the sea wall will feature both functional upgrades and artistic installations. The DoI's response to the FoI request provides clarity on the next steps, though further public engagement remains undocumented.
