Disney+ Unveils Two Bold German Originals: Vampires and Luxury Yachts
Berlin (dpa) – Disney+ has announced the release date for its Berlin-based dystopian thriller: The eight-part series City of Blood, a dark tale of crime and vampires, will be available to stream from September 16. Lea Drinda (The Gryphon) and Soma Pysall (PARA – We Are King) star in the leading roles. The series is based on the Berlinoir graphic novel series.
Set in a near-future Germany ravaged by unbearable heat due to climate change, the former capital of Berlin has shrunk into a corrupt, crime-ridden city-state. In City of Blood, only a small elite lives in relative comfort beneath a fully climate-controlled dome. "Bea and Phoebe, sisters separated in childhood, reunite and make a shocking discovery: Vampires dominate organized crime and seek political power to secure their survival. Blood has long become the city's true currency."
The cast also includes Jördis Triebel, Jenny Schily, Dagmar Manzel, Melika Foroutan, Mouataz Alshaltouh, Franz Hartwig, David Schütter, Jan Georg Schütte, and Lars Eidinger.
Disney+ has been available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for six years. At its Content Showcase 2026 event on Thursday evening, the streaming service unveiled its upcoming lineup.
In August, the reality docuseries Yacht Deals Monaco (formerly Yacht Dream Monaco) will premiere, following two German-speaking yacht brokers as they assemble a new team in the Mediterranean principality.
The series marks Disney+'s first foray into nonfiction entertainment from Germany, following scripted productions such as Sam – A Saxon, The German House, and Call My Agent Berlin.
