Depeche Mode unveils a fresh concert movie for public consumption
Depeche Mode, the renowned British electronic duo, is gearing up for the release of their new concert film, titled "Depeche Mode: M". This feature-length production promises to take audiences on an intense musical and spiritual journey, delving into themes beyond just music and Mexican culture.
The film is based on live performances by Depeche Mode in Mexico City during their world tour for the album "Memento Mori." It intertwines these performances with dramatic interstitial scenes and archival footage to explore parallels between Depeche Mode’s music and Mexican reflections on death.
The theme of impermanence is central to the film, demonstrating the profound connection between music, impermanence, and Mexican tradition. Dave Gahan, lead singer of Depeche Mode, has praised Fernando Frías de la Parra's work on the film, describing it as "truly wonderful."
The film's distribution network is extensive, reaching over 2,500 cinemas and IMAX theaters across more than 60 countries. The limited global theatrical release is set to begin on October 28, 2025. Tickets for the theatrical event will go on sale beginning September 17, 2025.
The world premiere of "Depeche Mode: M" took place at the Tribeca Festival in June 2025. This limited event release showcases the film as a special worldwide cinematic occasion rather than a conventional concert documentary.
With its global reach and thought-provoking themes, "Depeche Mode: M" is set to illustrate the timeless, multicultural impact of Depeche Mode. The film is a cinematic tribute to the band's connection with their Mexican fanbase and a spiritual journey that highlights the cultural significance of mortality, tying into the "Memento Mori" album and tour.
