Blue Jays shake up roster ahead of Rays showdown after injuries and struggles
The Toronto Blue Jays have made several roster changes ahead of their Monday night game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Pitcher Eric Lauer was removed from the active squad, while infielder Addison Barger was sidelined with an elbow issue. Lauer struggled in his latest outing, giving up six earned runs during Sunday’s game. His season record now stands at 1-5 with a 6.69 ERA. Following this performance, the team designated him for assignment.
Barger, meanwhile, was placed on the 10-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The move is backdated to Sunday, meaning he could return sooner if recovered. His injury came after a powerful throw from right field left him with limited arm movement. This isn’t his first setback this season—he previously missed 29 games with a sprained left ankle.
To fill the gaps, the Blue Jays recalled outfielder Yohendrick Pinango from Triple-A Buffalo. They also added pitcher Yariel Rodríguez to the major-league roster. The adjustments come as Toronto prepares to face Tampa Bay. With Lauer off the roster and Barger recovering, the team will rely on Pinango and Rodríguez for added depth. The Blue Jays aim to strengthen their lineup before the upcoming series.
