Aurigny CEO apologizes after flight chaos sparks Alderney protests

This Friday is World Theatre Day, so which Express stories have you given a standing ovation to and which left you asking for your money back?

From burning buildings at the Bridge to firing a cardiologist, here are the stories you've been mesmerised by in the last seven days.

1. Covid-skeptic doctor 'sacked'

A cardiologist who criticised the island's response to the Covid-19 pandemic has had his employment terminated.

His ex-employer, MSG, hasn't explained the reasons for letting Dr Dean Patterson go, but said he hadn't dealt with patients since last year.

2. Seven eleven

Eleven people have stepped forward to stand at the upcoming by-election for the vacant Deputy's seat.

Seven of them stood and lost in last year's general election, while three are former Deputies.

3. Burning Bridge

Firefighters and police rushed to the Bridge on Thursday evening, after part of Leale's Yard was spotted in flames.

Two youths were later arrested on suspicion of arson, Guernsey Police said.

4. House sitting

Landowners who 'sit' on properties that could be developed for housing have been warned they could face fines.

Deputy Steve Williams, President of Housing, said it was time to move beyond incentives and consider penalties to 'incentivise' house building.

5. Alderney apologies

Aurigny said sorry to the bailiwick's second-largest island twice this week.

The airline apologised to Alderney after it cancelled and postponed a series of flights because of a pilot shortage, then Aurigny's CEO flew up to say sorry to nearly 200 protestors.

Hogging the headlines...
