Atlanta Airport Braces for Record Memorial Day Travel Rush

Memorial Day weekend has arrived, signalling the start of the busy summer travel season. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is preparing for a surge in passengers, with nearly 3 million people expected to pass through its gates. This year’s numbers are set to exceed last year’s by around 100,000 travellers. Airport officials have warned of heavy crowds and advised passengers to arrive at least two hours before departure. Some, like traveller EJ Nevarez, are taking extra precautions by showing up three hours early to avoid delays and long queues.

Friday is predicted to be the peak day, with nearly 400,000 passengers moving through the airport. The increase in travellers comes as rising gas prices push up airfare and overall travel costs. Some holidaymakers have adjusted their plans, scaling back or rethinking trips due to higher expenses. The Memorial Day weekend will test the airport’s capacity, with officials closely monitoring passenger flow. Those flying out are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for check-in and security. The holiday rush marks the beginning of what could be a record-breaking summer for travel.
